Long Exposure Landscape Photography
Long exposure photography looks straightforward until you are standing at a waterfall with a tripod, and every shot comes out either blurry from camera shake or blown out from too much light. Getting it right consistently requires understanding a few interdependent variables that tutorials tend to gloss over.
The course walks through shutter speed selection for different water types, from fast-moving rapids where 1/4 second gives a different result than 2 seconds, to tidal flats where 30 seconds creates a mirror effect. You will understand why, not just what settings to dial in.
ND filters are the core tool here. We cover filter stacking, colour casts from cheaper glass, and how to calculate exposure times without an app when you are in the field without cell service. These are practical skills, not theory.
Shooting in low light and at night is covered in dedicated modules, including star trail photography over landscapes and light painting on long exposures.
Mirror lockup, remote shutter releases, and tripod stability on uneven terrain all get dedicated attention. A significant portion of the course addresses what goes wrong and how to diagnose it from the image rather than guessing in the field.
